VINTAGE DESCRIPTION:

The 2009 growing season at Ex Nihilo began with a cool start resulting bud break almost 3 weeks late. Despite the late start, the vines caught up the next 3 months with close to perfect temperatures and weather.  Warm dry days allowed full ripening and cool nights helped capture and retain the acidity in the grapes. “This vintage will go down as one to remember!”  Jeff Harder, Proprietor

WINEMAKING:

The grapes were harvested from our Okanagan Falls vineyard on October of 2009.  Fermented in stainless tanks at maximum temperature of approx 30 c, the wine was then aged for 18 months in one and two year old French oak barrels.

TASTING NOTES

Medium bodied with a deep, ruby colour, this rich Merlot shows notes of Okanagan cherries, raspberry jam and fresh cedar. Soft tannins with a finish that lingers with earthy notes of deep chocolate, allspice and smoke. Cellar now through 2017.  Enjoy with your favourite charcuterie, red meat and Italian dishes.
