- VINTAGE DESCRIPTION:
A cool spring gave way to later but ideal conditions for budburst and flowering. The berries developed under the Okanagan summer sun with low humidity and above average heat units. The warm summer which continued into the early fall allowed for a quicker ripening than normal. Harvest for the Ex Nihilo Merlot was October 24, 2006.
- WINEMAKING:
The Merlot was fermented in Stainless tanks at maximum temperature of approx 30 c. The wine was then aged in 50% new and 50% used American and French oak for 18 months.
- TASTING NOTES:
Classic Merlot with a rich ruby-red colour and an expressive nose of raspberry, cherry, dark chocolate and allspice. A silky mouthful of black cherry fruit and a balanced finish. An elegant wine which is approachable now and whose structure will show added complexities over the next 5 - 8 years.
